Going Global

Like the global movements of youth participation and community foundations, the youth in philanthropy movement is gaining momentum. It is resulting in optimistic and innovative programs, in often surprising places!

Although community foundations and their youth councils focus on their local communities, being part of a global movement also presents advantages and opportunities.

Working to make local communities better places for everyone is appealing to the youth involved in community foundation YACs. But it is also gratifying to feel part of a larger movement that is working to create positive change around the world.

Youth delegates and Barbara McMillan in Russia, July 2006Just as community foundations throughout the world are learning from each other, so too are those involved in youth philanthropy. Increasing access to technology presents new opportunities for youth to share information and ideas, and even to partner on projects.

Youth in Philanthropy Canada is here to provide more than just a place to obtain information. Our hope is that community foundation youth will use this website to learn more about each other and our communities, participate in on-line discussions, engage in "twinning" or mentoring relationships, and even work together.

The "Going Global" section of this site welcomes input from foundation youth everywhere! Whether your group has been around for a long time or is just getting started, we want to hear from you.
