Making Grants

Sample grants made by Canadian YACs

The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation (Ontario)

Youth Advisory Committee: 2004 Grants

This YAC made the following three grants in 2004:

Waterloo-Wellington Science and Engineering Fair
Young Researchers Bursary program
$400

The Young Researcher Bursary program will provide youth from lower income families with expert guidance and modest financial support to develop their ideas into quality research projects. Providing financial and intellectual support to youth of lower income families is the one way to overcome inherent disadvantages and ensure they can participate in the fair.

Woolwich Community Services
Youth Drop-in Centre equipment rejuvenation
$500

This Drop-in centre offers an after school and evening program for youth in Elmira, Ontario. Local youth use this extensively as there is no public transportation to the larger cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. The equipment being used was falling apart and needed to be replaced. Both the youth in Elmira and the Senior Citizens Centre, who share the equipment, will benefit.

House of Friendship
Chandler-Mowat Summer Playground Program
$500

This is a recreation program for children and youth ages three to 13 that fosters team building, socialization skills and conflict resolution, and builds self-esteem through individual and group activities and outings. Seventy per cent of the children who attend are new Canadians. This grant will allow them to increase staff so they can add more children from their huge waiting list.
