Colin C., 18
Richmond Youth Foundation (BC)
What do you feel you're getting out of being involved?
Being involved in the Richmond Youth Foundation has given me the opportunity to collaborate with other university students from various backgrounds in the arts, sciences, and commerce, who bring with them a diverse array of perspectives and skill sets.
What I feel was most profound about this exceptional group of individuals was that it allowed me to fully realize just how large and how dedicated the volunteer community is. The other Executive Councillors had a long history of philanthropy and involvement in other reputable organizations and brought with them characters of exceptional caliber.
United with a single, consistent vision, we built this organization from the ground up, using each other's skills and backgrounds to help each other along the way. Because all of us had very expansive networks, through each other we gained access to and were able to embark on other philanthropic enterprises.
Being involved in the Richmond Youth Foundation means being an outlet for youth in our community. To bridge the gap between the needs of the adults in our municipality and the youth in our municipality between the Richmond Community Foundation and the Richmond Youth Foundation meant the ability for the ideas and dreams of youth to overcome the financial barriers necessary to realize their faculties and a means by which to carry forward their proposals meant to further and improve the quality of the lives of youth in our city.
I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many wonderful people during my tenure with this organization thus far, and thought the short term rewards are yet to be seen, the long-term rewards are already very, very obvious to me.
