Huronia Communities Foundation YAC in profile

Huronia Communities Foundation is based in Ontario and serves the towns of Midland, Penetanguishene, the Townships of Tay, Tiny, Georgian Bay, including Christian Island, Elmvale, Coldwater and west Severn Township.

The community foundation's executive director, Garry Morehouse, explains why youth in philanthropy and the role of the YAC is felt to be so important for Huronia:

The Youth Advisory Council, facilitated by an adult advisor Joyce Roberts, is an effective and reaching arm of the Grants Committee and the Foundation which provides a wonderful opportunity for local youth to have the guidance and experience to view their community needs more broadly and to directly affect youth programs and activities.

The YAC was established to allow hands on experience in philanthropy. YAC encourages youth to learn about charitable giving and the needs in the community. This experience promotes lifelong values of giving back to the community.

Youth in Philanthropy

This youth initiative is a way to create philanthropists, foster good citizenship and to inspire young people to care and to give back to their communities. Our YAC hopes to encourage all of these qualities [and] allow youth to cultivate the joy of giving plus the resulting benefits.
